| Is there a fundamental approach to getting your website on the first page of a web search? | |||||
1. The longer your site is published, the better it will rank. Without a strategy, it can take a year for a site to be listed on a search engine. 2. Website 'authoring': This means ensuring all text, keywords, image alt tags, descriptions etc are targeted towards the key words and phrases visitors will enter into a search engine. Example: If you are selling widgets. Make sure your site actually mentions widgets. 3. High Competition? If you are publishing a website in a highly competitive market - eg a Hotel, then consider means to segment your market approach. Are you a boutique hotel, or an eco-resort? Which locational category? City or country? Author the website accordingly and this will narrow down the possibilities for your visitors finding you. 4. Listing services: Search for online listing services for your industry. Hotels have the likes of wotif.com - and there are smaller, more localised listing services in your local area. Often a chamber of commerce body has one for members. Listing on as many of these as possible improves your chances of being found. This also improves the search engine rankings. 5. Contents: A website can hold enormous amounts of information. Usually, the site with the most information about a particular keyword search wins the ranking. So the more background information you can publish about your product, directed at targeted keywords, the better your chances. 6. Enquire directly with the search engines for sponsored positioning as part of your optimisation campaign. All this takes many hours of time and careful planning. Live By Design can assist you with the implementation of search engine optimisation either via a management solution or a consultation. |
