A friend or an associate sends you a word or excel file and you can't open it due to the file being named as a *.docx or *.xlsx type file. What now?
© LivebyDesign.com.auIf you are well rehearsed at using MS Office 2000 or 2003 Word and Excel, you won't have a chance of opening new files created in Office 2007.

The first time many people find this out is when a friend or associate emails one of the new 2007 versions as an attachment. Renaming the file extension to *.doc or *.xls won't work.

Thankfully, Microsoft has provided a means to open advanced versions via a special software upgrade available from www.microsoft.com When you visit the Microsoft site, search for the 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats'. Follow the instructions to download and install.

First hand experience gave some slowing down while converting the files, other than this the software works well.
